Youth Peer Support

Youth Peer Support is a vital aspect of our wellness services. With the freedom to explore with each other the challenges, wins, and ambiguities of life in a safe space, teens develop mutual respect and learn the value of taking their masks off to keep it real. This creates powerful de-stigmatization, connection, and a strong container for learning, healing, and thriving. We are so proud of our youth warriors for finding their voice, staying curious, and supporting each other.

The benefits of Peer to Peer support are well researched. Youth really value learning from people their own age and who have lived experience as their knowledge base. Connecting with peers who have been where you are, speak your language, and are often available to offer support at odd hours, is a strong belay. The support offered by peers is extra non-judgmental, as it is not tinged with an added layer of adult directives. Youth tend to take direct advice from each other, in ways they may not from the adult tier. Finally, peer-to-peer support gives youth the protective factors of helping others.

“Gami and Zack, and the Mindful Warriors program is amazing!!! They were able to positively engage teenage boys in group mindfulness activities where many other programs could not. To have at risk youth WANT to participate in something like this is amazing! Gami is a gift to our community!”
