Therapeutic Mentoring

The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely they will recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love.”

What Makes Our Program Different

The WHMB mentoring program is led by our clinically-supervised mentors, trained in our 4Roots Method and leading edge humanistic, trauma-informed modalities. We provide a consistent, caring, authentic relationship with the youth through supported risk taking in nature such as kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, and personal reflection. Our personal reflection includes activities such as art-making, nature journaling, meadow-tating and strength-based confidence building. We provide the container, support, connection and opportunities for young people to thrive. Our program is a unique, powerful and flexible option within the field of therapeutic services.

Program Structure

For: Ages 5-23

What: Weekly two to four hour 1-on-1 mentoring sessions. We pick up the youth from school, often with a kayak on our car, go on a 2-3 hour adventure in nature, grab a bite to eat, and then bring your child home.

Where: Our mentors arrange to pick up the mentee wherever they are! Most sessions take place in nature, but we are also sensitive to the needs and wants of the mentee.

Fee For Service: We seek compensation for services when appropriate, and much of our caseload is under-resourced youth. Through gracious funding from Tahoe Forest Hospital, Tahoe-Truckee Community Foundation, Placer and Nevada Counties, and charitable community members, we ensure flexibility and worry-free access to our program.
